CHALLENGE YOURSELF

I’ve been thinking about times when I feel happy and accomplished.  Now, aside from the happiness I get from my family, I feel the most accomplished after completing something difficult or challenging.  Hmmm, there must be something to this.  What do you think?

What has been missing when I feel like I am in a rut, down, or depressed?  Answer: the completion of a challenge.  This has proven to be true, at least for me and I have confessed that I do not think that I am much different than the average person out there, time and time again.  The truth be told, I was in a funk for at least the last seven years.  Down and depressed.  Looking back, I wasn’t challenging myself on a regular basis.  When I did challenge myself, by starting a new project and completing it, I felt a bit of accomplishment.  

I am now, for the most part, out of the funk.  This article here is a bit of an epiphany for me.  It came to me while having a conversation with my son and caused me to do a bit of self reflection.  The introspection made me realize that I have been challenging myself and because of that I am happier.  Lately, I have been challenging myself to write more, meditate daily, and journal daily.  This productivity and the challenges that come with it have made me dig deep in order to succeed.  When I succeed, I feel the satisfaction of finishing something that I began.

This is oversimplified, I know.  However, I think that we can all benefit from Challenging ourselves on a daily basis in order to get the win that we need.  Give it a try and let me know how it works out for you.  Find something difficult to do and see it through.  Try to do this on a daily basis.  Let me know how it works out for you.
