Somewhere In The Middle
Anything that is not supported by fact can and will be subject to opinion. Already, I kind of have to take my first sentence back because even things that are fact are twisted, spun, and opinionated. Almost all topics have two drastically opposing points of view that derive from the same source material. How can this be!? It completely drives me nuts. I do not think that I am just naïve and think that this is a new phenomenon. I know that opposing views are as old as human politics, but it is mentally exhausting and is right in my face due to technology.
When confronted with two opposing views when I was younger, I would more often than not, I would simply side with who I identified with. I really didn’t give it much thought. I didn’t test the views posed on either side or do any research to form my own opinion, but now that I have some life experience behind I feel like I’ve developed a B.S. sixth sense. This is especially true when two opposing opinions have developed from the same source material. I mean…come on!
Reality is usually, “somewhere in the middle.” You and I will have to do our own research to find reality, but I can guarantee that the truth, or reality, will be somewhere in the middle of the opposing opinions. For example, humans must eat and we have been eating since the beginning of our species, but for some god forsaken reason (usually monetary reasons) there are polarizing opinions about what we should eat for health. The two main opposing opinions are vegans and carnivores. Believe it or not, there are some on each side that hate each other with a passion because of it. I have done research on this subject and have used myself as a Guinee pig with diets. Both the vegans and carnivores will use the same studies for evidence to support their arguments. So, what did I discover in my personal research? A healthy optimal human diet is somewhere in the middle. Imagine that.
The perfect human diet was just an example and I hope that I am getting my point across. Whether it is food, politics, global warming, ethics etc, etc, etc. The answer is somewhere in the middle. I hope that we can have overcome polarization, have peaceful debates, and discussions with open minds willing to change our opinions when facts are presented. Then we will find that we all have valid points that will tighten our shot group and bring us to the answers that are somewhere in the middle.
