Dedication & Hard Work

Even though it was watched on YouTube, I witnessed an amazing feat of strength today. Hafthor Bjornsson, you probably know him as the Mountain from the, “Game Of Thrones,” HBO series, deadlifted the heaviest weight any person has ever lifted. He deadlifted a whopping 501KG (1,104lbs). Up until this moment, I have been following Hafthor, and other strongmen, as they prepare for, and compete in, strongmen competitions. I followed Hafthor particularly because I knew that he was going to attempt to make an attempt at lifting more than 500KG. As I followed his journey, I couldn’t help but notice the attributes that would guide him to success aside from a very noticeable genetic gift. Dedication, and hard work, paid off for Hafthor and they will pay off for me and you. Whatever your goal or aspirations are, you will not achieve them without dedication and hard work.

Sometimes (I am speaking to myself here) we know what we want, but don’t want to work for it. Or, we start working for it wishing that success would find us and all of our goals would be fulfilled with little to no effort. However, we find out that achieving our goal is not going to just magically materialize and it is going to take a lot of hard work and dedication to make it happen.

Procrastination is another show stopper to hard work and dedication. Many times we identify a goal, but that’s as far as it goes as the looming shadow of procrastination envelopes us. I wish I had the sure way to stop procrastination in its’ tracks, but I’m afraid that there isn’t one. This is a struggle that each and everyone of us, who battles procrastination, will have to overcome in our own way but, overcome we must.

Hafthor worked day in and day out on preparing to heave that massive amount of weight. He worked hard to stick to his lifting program. He stayed dedicated to his nutrition and meal plans. We must do the same for our own personal goals whether they are to get out of debt, write a book, buy a house, find someone to spend the rest of your life with, or whatever your goal is. I hope you find your motivation to stay dedicated to, and work hard, to achieve your goals.
